The Process
Using this unit, Hamm Chemie implemented the following objectives:
- environmentally friendly recycling of mixed acid pickle is ensured;
- this process leading to a considerable reduction of waste that has to be disposed of;
- the raw material zinc is once again integrated into industrial cycle;
- the iron chloride solution is used in wastewater treatment, for instance.
The Cycle
Hamm Chemie supplies the galvanizing industry with hydrochloric acid. During the pickling process this acid is spent and thus becomes an environmental problem for containing further heavy metals and organics besides the valuable products iron and zinc.
We have faced this problem and now Hamm Chemie, in close cooperation with the galvanizing industry, operates a recycling unit having an annual capacity of 12,000 tonnes of spent acid.
The range of mixed acids to be processed nearly covers any mixed acid composition that may occur.
Service
On demand, Hamm Chemie carries out a comprehensive chemical analysis based
on the above range of acid pickles. Taking into account the results determined, recommendations on operating hot dip pickling baths may be provided.
